The restoration process by Boggis and Co.
Restoration started 13th February 2017. The organ began to be dismantled. The organ was systematically dismantled. Some parts were removed to the Boggis workshop. Others were removed and stored to the side of the church. The whole organ chamber was covered with polythene to minimise dust and dirt covering the church.
The two chambers were dismantled, repainted and the whole organ structure was moved to centralise the console with the arch in the chancel. The large bellows have been re-leathered. 1008 pipes have been individually cleaned, greased and wrapped in parcels for safety, the pieces returned gradually to be placed.
There are still items on the organ to be fully completed but it all has to be done in sequence.
When the organ was originally created, Father Henry Willis intended it to have a Great Mixture 111 which is another sound mix. This never happened.
At the end of our project the Heritage Lottery Fund have enabled us to add this final item to make the organ complete as Henry Willis intended.
When this is completed the back casement will also be finished off and the vestry floor carpeted.
